Balance…

is my constant goal. Not just at the beginning of a new year, ALWAYS. I believe, specifically for me, my grand scheme or purpose in this life is to live it with balance. It hasn’t come easy. I find when I do have a balance, I am much happier.

Components of a good balanced day: {no particular order}

  • Time with my Maker
  • Time for me
  • Time with my husband
  • Time with my kids
  • Time with friends
  • Time for rest/sleep
  • Time for nourishment
  • Time for work/service inside the home
  • Time for organizing

Components of a good balanced week:

  • Exercise Time
  • Creative Time
  • Service outside the home
  • Errands
  • Church Worship
  • Everything mentioned for balanced day. :)

I found the following picture on Flickr.com thanks to Patty Anne. I was looking for a good photo of balance scales to add to this post and came across her genius picture. This is what Patty wrote below it:

balance

My one word resolution for the year is balance.
This year I seek balance in myself, my days, my home, my relationships, in my life.

I often feel like a high-wire act, balancing on that thin line riding a unicycle holding onto opposing priorities with a couple of people propped precariously upon my shoulders while life tosses more at me from all directions, smiling the whole time saying “I’m fine, really, I’m fine”.

balance

I completely agree with Patty.

Work Smarter, NOT Harder,

I DID IT!

I finished a project!!! Yippee! The ironic thing is that this project included SEWING. I HATE to sew! However I was really motivated to make some new fall pillow covers for my front porch rocking chair pillows. My very talented Mom was able to help me get my sewing machine up and running last week while she was here. {Thanks again, Mom!} She gave me instruction on the pattern and I made my first pillow cover while she was here. Today I decided I was finishing the other three covers this morning before Christmas decorating begins.

I wanted to make covers so I don’t have to buy new pillows for every season. Covers take up a lot less space! As soon as I remember & find what blog I was inspired to make the pillow covers from I will site it here. Besides, you can’t find outdoor pillows in fall colors anywhere. I like the minimal cost as well. :)

It feels so GOOD to complete a projecta huge accomplishment.

Looks good,
Shan

P.S.: Took the photo on manual mode…practice, practice, practice. 😉

Boo!

I found this adorable flyer on a blog, The Tomkat Studio, recently & it inspired me to do a little “booing” of our own. (This means I might be giving us away…oh well!) So, we whipped some baskets up (HA…took about a week to get it all together, but I think it turned out super cute.) The kids kept saying how much fun it was to deliver the baskets, post the Boo sign and run. It’s basically like ding dong ditching. Thought I would share a few photos.

Boo to you,
Shan

I CAN do it!!!

I am so excited to complete my very first digital scrapbook page with my complex photoshop elements software. I want to thank Jessica Sprague for her FREE online tutorial for beginners. It was super easy to follow along. This made my day to be able to do this!!

Teacher Mini Clipboard Gifts

{This is a re-post from last year.}

Lately, whenever I do a project or change something up in my house, I hear from my children, “where did you get that idea?” My answer seems to always be, “on a blog.” So much that the last time my son asked me, I didn’t even have to answer. He immediately said, “I know, on a BLOG!”

I have gotten so many great ideas from blogs.  It literally has made a huge impact on my life, apparently.

So here is my latest inspiration project due to fellow blogger Marta Writes.  She is extremely creative and I used her mini clipboards idea to give to my kid’s teachers this week for Teacher Appreciation Week. She has great instructions on how to make them with wonderful photos. You can see them here. Thanks Marta!

Blogs are awesome,

Thanks Nesting Place!

The Nester’s Wall, My Inspiration Photo

I’m finally posting one of the projects I’ve been working on. Thanks to Nesting Place I have been inspired to do some more beautifying of my home. I LOVE her blog! She has made me look at things in a very different way. Plus she is frugal like me! I now “shop at home” and plan to do some window “mistreatments.” If you want to know what those terms mean you will just have to go to her very cute blog and check it out. You won’t be disappointed.

All of the frames used in my photo above were not being used & now they are! All I needed to buy was a can of spray paint! Gotta love that!

Paint on,
Shan
