A Mom’s Words

It’s Tuesday and I woke up to SUNSHINE!  JOY!

Found a generous blog worth featuring today.  Grateful to find Ladybird Ln this morning.  Many bloggers are preparing for the upcoming holiday of Mother’s Day, Sunday May 8, 2011.  Ladybird Ln is sharing a gorgeous print perfect for Mother’s Day.  You could frame it, mod podge it, scrapbook it or include it on a card…sure to be enjoyed by any Mom.  I just downloaded and printed my copy.  But I think I will be adding it to my desktop too.  Thank you to the talented girls of Ladybird Ln.  Visit their site and download yours today.

Grateful for my Craft Room

I have been promising photos of my craft room for a while.  I’ve been promising myself for almost 2 years!  Finally, I bit the bullet this week and focused on purging, cleaning and organizing.  {Totally helped to listen to an audio book while doing it…read how you can get one for free here.}  It feels so good.  However, I can’t promise that it will ever look this way again.  I told my youngest to go check it out when she got home from school.  “It’s too bare, Mom!”  This room tended to be a dumping grounds after we moved in.  It was a total mess with the counter tops covered in stuff.  I had boxes of various items all over the floor.

I am utterly and completely grateful for this special room.  We built a section for my kids to craft and practice their creativity.  You will see it with the small black stools underneath.  The other side of the room is basically mine.  On the left side I do my traditional scrapbooking & crafting and on the right side is my computer station.

“How did you get your husband to let you have this room?”

This is probably the first question guests ask me upon entering.  I never expected that question.  The answer…hubby spent 15 years of seeing paint, play dough, scrapbook paraphernalia and various other crafting supplies strewn all over the house.  He is very grateful to have a room dedicated for all my memorabilia as well.  It is the culmination of many years of planning.  The floor is cork, the counter tops are stainless steel looking laminate and I have filled every one of the cabinets you see.  I did not photograph the inside of all them, though.  Only a few are organized enough to share. 😉

I love seeing other people’s rooms or studios dedicated to crafting…such eye candy to behold for someone like me.  I looked at so many photos and blogs while building.  Let me know what you think, please.  Do you like?

Credit: I want to thank Jennifer McGuire from Jennifer McGuire Ink for inspiring the design of my craft room.  Jennifer is famous in the crafting world and her craft room was the inspiration for my own.  She is way more organized than me, but her thorough videos and photos helped me tremendously.  You can see her room by clicking here.

The Girl Creative

I Heart Gallery Walls {can you tell}

Grateful for our Family Vacations

One of my favorite blogs, The Inspired Room, is hosting a Gallery Wall Party.  I decided I would join in the fun and share some of the galleries in my home today.  The one above are photos taken on various vacations we have been on together over the years.  {The blue mats were cut specifically for the photos at Hobby Lobby}.  I pulled out all the photos professional photographers had taken while at Disney World, Lego Land, Grand Canyon, Cruise and NYC.  Our vacations together are precious memories never to be forgotten.  This one is near our kitchen so we can see them every day.  I chose to put the word ‘gratitude’ in the gallery because it is a value we want to reinforce in our home.

Empty Frame Gallery

This one was inspired by another one of my favorite bloggers {as most of you already know}, the Nester.  I have wrote a post about this one a long time ago.  You can read more about this by going here.  Most visitors ask me why I don’t have anything in the frames.  Guess they don’t see the art in the collection.  Oh well, I do it for me. :)

Craft Room Gallery

Stay tuned for more photos of my craft room very soon.  I bought the line and clips at IKEA.

Keeping Calm in Mudroom

You can read more about this gallery here.  It is remarkably easy and affordable.

If you are interested in seeing more ideas head over to The Inspired Room for Melissa’s Gallery Wall Party {tell her I sent you ;)}.  There are over a hundred to choose from.  I love seeing what everyone else is doing.  It is fun to showcase what matters to you and your family in your home.  Don’t let those photos stay in boxes or albums.

Party On,

Easter Decorated Mantel

I love how the white POPS

Out of all the rooms in our house, we are in the living room the most.  I enjoy changing the mantel for the seasons.  Everything I used I already had in my home somewhere.  Thanks to the Nester, I have learned to shop at home.  The newest item is the white votive tree.  I won it at a silent auction last month at a school fundraiser.  I decided to put eggs in mine.

Reason for the season

I cut a piece of burlap to make the bow for my chalkboard.  I used a frilly plate {I got at my swap party} to add to the candle holder to make a pedestal of sorts for the Jesus & Children figurine{I made that at church many years ago, was in my playroom}.

Book Paper Egg Wreath

I fell in love with decorating with book paper last year.  I found Erin at Lemon Tree Creations who inspired me to make my own book page egg wreath.  I began mine last year before Easter, but ran out of the size of eggs I was using.  I had to wait until Easter rolled around again to find the smaller size eggs to finish my project.  Finally finished it.  After looking at Erin’s again, I think I need to add more eggs to mine.  I like the fuller look.  The dollar store didn’t have the foam wreaths in stock when I decided to make mine.  All they had were small willow wreaths, so I used it.  I just decoupaged it with book paper before hot gluing the eggs. Guess what book I used pages from?

Right Side with Kids Portrait {taken several years ago}

My kids are much older now, but I really like the pastel blues used in this photo. {Who says you can’t have out-dated photos displayed? rhetorical question}  I love seeing the innocence in this shot.

I would love to see your Spring or Easter Mantel.  If you have a post featuring yours share it here by linking below.  Thanks for coming by!

Home Brings Joy,

Mudroom Artwork

Keeping Calm in my Mudroom

The Keep Calm and Carry on Artwork has become very popular. I used to teach Sunday School at church. {I miss it.}  One Sunday I was highlighting some Hymns that went along with the lesson.  I came across this awesome website and decided to make posters with the name of the Hymns for the lesson.  Afterward, I decided {I liked them so much} I wanted to use them as decor in my home.

Used wall velcro stickers to hang

I needed something in my mudroom

and realized I had the perfect number to fill the space on the wall.

{sorry for glare}

Every day as we come & go from this room we are reminded of these calming Hymns.

Sometimes seeing one automatically makes me begin to sing.

Close up

By the way, I bought the 8 1/2 x 11 frames at the dollar store.

I took my sanding block and sanded the edges a little to give it that rustic look.

Opposite wall with our lockers

I love being able to not spend a lot of money to decorate.

WIN/WIN  Talk about bringing JOY!  😉
