Aunts Bring Joy

This morning I am celebrating the life of a beautiful Woman.

My Great Grand Aunt passed away on Tuesday.  She was 93 years old.

I’m unable to attend the funeral this morning {in another state} which will begin soon.  So, instead I want to pay tribute to this special family member here.

This lively and charismatic woman was affectionately known as “Tootsie.”  I remember when I was young I couldn’t help but snicker a little when my Mom talked about Aunt Tootsie.  Her name always reminded me of Tootsie rolls.  {I had a big sweet tooth back then.}

She is the youngest of 10 children and the Sister to my Great Grandpa on my Mother’s side.  Even though she did not have any children herself, she was a Mother.  She helped Mother my Grandma and many other family members and friends.  She had a heart of gold and she let it shine.  Everybody loved Aunt Tootsie.  She had a wonderful sense of humor and always made me laugh.  Not only that, she always made me feel special and remembered me the few times I was with her.

The above photo is of me {don’t laugh at my hair-do} and my Sister with Aunt Tootsie.  This was taken at my Grandpa’s funeral back in May of 2009.

I’m happy to know Aunt Tootsie is reunited with my other family members beyond the veil.  She has left a beautiful legacy for our family.  She will be missed, but I know I will be able to see Aunt Tootsie again.  This knowledge brings great solace as we mourn her death.

P.S.:  I challenge you to take time for an Aunt in your life today.  Visit, make a call, write a note, send a text, email or Facebook message.  It will surely make her day. 😀
