“God Bless Our Love” came from a beautiful song by Peter Breinholt called Grow Old With Me. If you haven’t heard it yet, prepare to be swept away. The first time I heard it, it reminded me of my marriage. You can hear the song at the end of this post.
I am ecstatic to share these photos with you! I don’t know about you, but my bedroom and closet are usually the last on my priority list. I decided to use the deadline of Roomspiration’s last day to link up, which is TODAY, and get it done. Nothing like working at the last minute. I’m linking this one to Just A Touch of Gray.
So we have these picture windows and I haven’t wanted to add window treatments because I love the view. I’m afraid it might distract from the view too much. What do you think?
The double doors go to our bathroom.
Shan’s Tips for making your Master Bedroom a couples Oasis:
- No photos of the kids in the bedroom. It almost kind of seems like a sin to suggest this, but think about it; we have photos of our kids in every room of our home, right? {At least we do.} Your Master Bedroom should be a place where you are reminded of the love you and your spouse have together. It won’t hurt to have one room where you don’t have photos of your kids. I promise.
- Photos of you & your spouse. It’s nice to have at least one photo from your wedding.
- If possible, try not to have the following things in your bedroom: work items, toys, laundry, hobby stuff…these all take away from the Oasis theme. You want your room to be a place for you and your spouse to relax and enjoy. If you’re not sleeping, then you want to be focusing on each other in the room, no distractions. You can read my thoughts about the importance of Special Time HERE.
Yes, that is my wedding dress you see on the dress form in the corner. Thanks to one of my very best friends of all time, Kelli, for the idea. I walked into her Master Bedroom and fell in love. She, too, had her wedding dress displayed in her room. My wedding dress was stored in a wedding bag taking up precious room in my closet. I liked the idea of having it out to see every day.
I feel the dress is a symbol of our wedding vows/covenants. It has been a good reminder on those days when my husband & I have had an argument or a bad day. When I walk into the room, I remember that our love is for better and for worse, together forever. I have to say, it was a little weird at first. After I first hung it up, when you walk into the room and see it in your peripheral vision…you tend to think someone is there. We are all used to it now and know it’s not some ghost or anything. {snicker}
On our wedding day…sigh.
I found this mirror for an excellent price of $35 at a local discount store called Walls. I figured it was the perfect size to hang over our bed. DH helped me hang it with the Hercules Hooks. They really work! They were very easy to use and I don’t worry about it falling on top of us while we are sleeping. That would be bad! Anyway, once I found the mirror I knew I wanted to put “God Bless Our Love” on it. At the present time I can’t remember the name of the online company I ordered it from. In a future post I will share how I applied the vinyl words with photos and the name of the company I ordered it from.
I use a shadow box, one you can open and close, to display necklaces and jewelry. Glad to finally have it hung up. It used to be sitting on top of my dresser for over a year.
I splurged and bought these 3 drawer pulls at Anthropologie. I wanted a special place to hang my special necklaces.
Hubby bought me this necklace for my Birthday. It is made by a wonderful company called Harley & Maude. Notice the Family & Joy charms? Had to share that one 😉
If you are a long time reader of Family Brings Joy, you will recognize this. I am SO grateful I decided to buy this wood saying “Happy Wife Happy Life.” (T.J. Maxx) I heard my husband say it once with chagrin. However, there is much TRUTH to those words. Don’t you think? Sometimes husbands need to be reminded of this. 😉 {Love you, honey!}
This is a very special wedding photograph for us. We were so poor when we got married that we couldn’t afford to pay for any reprints of our wedding photos. All we could afford was our 5×5 proofs. One friend bought this 8×10 for us as a wedding gift. Oh how I cried when I found out how much the photographs were! AND cried once again when we called the photographer {after we finally could afford buying larger portraits} to find out they had destroyed our negatives. Sadness.
Found the above beauty at a local store to give my hubby for our 17the wedding anniversary this past May.
The cedar trunk has been passed down to me from my Great Grandparents.
If you recall from my Living Room photos, I love the ocean. It’s my most favorite place…the waves…the sand. Ahhhh wish I could be there now typing this on the beach. Here are two other bottles of sand from our adventures as a family. These used to be clear, but over time the sun has turned the bottles orange. The shells are ones we picked up from the beach while on our Disney Cruise for my 40th birthday. And the photo of the handsome man, {which is DH, of course } was taken on the beach of Disney’s Castaway Cay.
Hope you enjoyed the tour. Please let me know if you have any questions. I always love to hear from my readers.
P.S. : I was not paid by any of the companies I mentioned in this post.

I’m a ROMANTIC,
I love what you’ve done with your bedroom. I think my favorite part is the wedding dress. I also saw it in a photo where it was framed. It was amazing. I still haven’t even had mine dry cleaned. Can you believe it?
Your master bedroom is a beautiful retreat. I love the personal details (and tips) and your wedding dress displayed. So pretty! Our master bedroom is such a disaster but I made a start and moved all of my clothes to a guest room (dressing room ~ woo hoo!) to make more room for Mr. DIY’s things. Now the hard part of doing the rest. Not sure where it falls on our DIY list yet but I’ll be keeping your tips in mind!
