Happy Valentine’s Day,

Activity to Celebrate Your Valentine

As a couple, put together a little book detailing the story of how you met and fell in love.

Include photographs from when you were dating, along with any memorabilia from the past.

You may even want to include pictures from your wedding, or letters that you have written to each other.

As you reflect on your past, this book will bring you closer as a couple and will include your family in this very important part of your life.  Children love to hear stories about their parents, and by sharing this book with them, you are teaching them how valuable and sacred a loving relationship is.  This story will become a family favorite and your children will ask to hear it over and over again.

Maybe you can start on it today just by recalling memories with your Valentine while at dinner.  Then every February, make it a tradition to work on the book.

Last night my Valentine and I celebrated Valentine’s Day.  Hubby has to work all day and night today so we decided to celebrate a day early.  At dinner we reminisced over previous Valentines Day celebrations and anniversaries.  I took notes in my current handy notebook I keep in my purse.  It’s always interesting to find out what he remembers.  But I plan on making this little How We Met Book using my Once Upon A Family Valentine’s Day Silk Album.

After dinner we saw the movie The Vow.  This movie only reinforced how important it is to journal.  I know it’s not likely that we’ll suffer from amnesia like the main character of the movie {inspired by a true story btw}, but what if we did?  Wouldn’t we cherish and value such a How We Met Book?  I know I would.  Whether or not it would help me remember {if I had amnesia or lost my memory}, it would help me know that our love was important and special.

I believe that is what Valentines is all about…reminding us how important LOVE is…how important our relationships are…to celebrate that love.

Happy Valentine’s Day,

Love Is Spoken Here

I’m sharing with you one of my Christmas gifts from my DH today combined with my Valentine’s Day Mantel.

This family photo was my favorite of all the ones taken.  My Christmas gift from the hubster included this beautiful canvas.  I really wish I could hang the canvas up on the stone centered in between the top of the shutters and the mantel.  Problem is, I don’t want to drill 2 holes into the stone for screws in order to hang it up.  I contemplated using the command strips, but I really believe the canvas would be too heavy for those.  This is my compromise even though I really think the shutters are too tall for the photo.  It’s my fault since I made the shutters.  You can see how here.

I was completely and utterly thrilled to find the yarn wrapped ‘love’ idea online  It’s super easy.  All I did was take my 18″ green floral wire and bent it to create the letters.  The ‘L’ took up one wire, ‘ov’ took up another wire, and ‘e’ was about half a wire.  Take your yarn and wrap it around, it’s as simple as that…time consuming, but simple.  TIP:  If I were to go back and make another one, I would wrap the wire FIRST with the yarn and then bend into letters.  I did it the other way around and I think it might be easier to do it the opposite.  I hot glued the yarn wrapped ‘Love’ onto the shutter.  It will be easy to take off  in the future and not leave a mess.

“Is Spoken Here” are chip board letters taken out of my scrapbooking stash.  It’s funny, I’ve been using my scrapbooking supplies for more non-scrapbooking things than actual making scrapbook pages.  I used my trusty re-positionable dot glue to glue them onto the shutters.  This way I know they will come off cleanly when I am ready to take them down.

Thanks to Heidi Swapp & My Craft Channel I learned how to make the cute heart garland out of scrapbook paper, maps and book paper.  If you want to learn how to make them go here.

You see the shelf over the television?  I asked the builder to add that shelf because I like to use all available space if possible.  My intention was to display photos there.  Problem is, whenever I put photos up there, you can barely see them.  It’s kind of hard to explain, but long story short, I have had a heck of a time staging/beautifying {whatever you want to call it} that stinking shelf.  So I have seen other people take books and place them in their shelves backwards and I liked the look.  I thought, “why not try it?”  I went through the house and took all of our hard bound books, took off the covers and shoved them in.  I really like it!  I decided I like the look of the sizes mismatched throughout too.  I think the off white color of the book pages brings continuity from the off white of the shutters.  What do you think?

This is what the other side of my living room looks like now.  Isn’t it lovely? 😉 I have 2 new photos from Christmas I’m adding to this wall so I needed to reconfigure the gallery.  Back to the drawing board.  This means time to take out the Power Puff Girls Christmas wrapping paper I will never use to wrap gifts with again.  I trace the frames onto the wrapping paper {turned it over to the white side, of course} and use the templates to figure out how I want it to look.  This will be a week or so long process for me to get it where it looks right.  I use paint tape to tape the templates to the wall.  It comes off easy and doesn’t hurt the paint for me to rearrange multiple times.  The items on the ground are what will be going up there.  Yesterday I covered up 26 nail holes from the previous wall gallery.  The Nester would be proud of me. 😉  Hubby will be proud to know I filled the holes in good and painted over…good as new!

Before I head out for my 3 mile run today {in the rain} I want to again THANK everyone who has generously taken time to complete my short survey.  It means a LOT to me.  The feedback is highly valuable.  It’s not too late to take the survey.  I will keep it open for about a week before tabulating the results.  It’s completely anonymous and you don’t have to answer every question if you don’t want to.  Whatever you can give is very gracious.

After all these years…

Angels ARE In Our Midst

Saying this week has been a challenge for me is somewhat of an understatement. There is no need for me to go into details. I really don’t want to “relive” the week anyway. One day this week I was feeling very down. I noticed a brightly colored gift bag in between my storm door and my front door. I brought it in the house and looked inside. Two of my very favorite treats were inside, Extra Cheddar Flavor Blasted Goldfish (we call them “extra cheesy“) and Reeses. It brought a smile to my face and a tear to my eyes. My first inclination was they had to be from my husband. I quickly looked at the card to see: “Hey Shan, Here’s something to hopefully brighten your cloudy day! I’m praying for you! Love, Sara”

I was in shock. This is my new friend. We haven’t spent that much time together and I am not the type to talk about food. How did she know?! Not just about the snacks, but that I was feeling blue. How did she know? I immediately called her and expressed my gratitude for her uplifting gift. She relayed the story of how she found out from my husband what I liked. Honestly, I am still very stunned that she went to that much trouble to bring me those treats.

Sara, if you are reading this, thank you again. 🙂 You don’t know how much it means to me. I really can not even put into words how very touched I am. Your friendship, although new, is a priceless treasure to me.

This is yet another testimony to me that our Father in Heaven hears our prayers and is mindful of us. I do believe that there are heavenly angels. However, I believe we can be angels to others when God needs us to be. Sara, whether she realizes it or not, was one of those angels for me this week. I am grateful to my loving Heavenly Father and to Sara for listening to His promptings.

I challenge you to listen to the still small voice this week. Maybe you or I can be on the Lord’s errand and bring the joy that only HIS LOVE can bring to someone in need.

Very Sincerely,

I love my friends!

On Saturday I was able to speak with one of my dearest friends who lives in Oregon now. She was supposed to visit my blog…Welcome!!! It was so great to hear how well she is doing. She and her family are going through a tough trial right now. Even so, she is persevering and clinging to her faith. We have prayed for them so much and I know Heavenly Father has answered our prayers.

I have another close friend from my home state who I miss dearly. Thanks to having the same cell phone company, texting, blogs and e-mails we keep in touch regularly. I am grateful for technology that can keep us close. 🙂 I can’t wait to see you in November! You know who you are!

I have only one true friend where I live now. She is so sweet and one of the most positive people I have ever met. I might feel a little lonely living in our small little town without her. I called her up on my birthday and she cleared her busy schedule to go to lunch with me! Thank you, girlie! 🙂

Friends are what makes the world go round.” Isn’t that the truth! They make this world a happier place. We have fun together, we cry together, we learn together…we, in essence, become family. I am profoundly grateful for my friends. Wherever you are, wherever you live…thank you for loving me just the way I am.
Sorry so “mushy”!
