Happy Birthday Mom!

Before I am off to bed, I just want to say Happy Birthday again to my Mom. I hope you had a great day…I am so extremely blessed to have you as my mother.

I love you, Mom.

Something I Don’t Want to Forget

Last night I was so tired and ready to go to sleep myself when I tucked in my little girl. We believe in early bedtimes, kids need lots of sleep & parents need alone time. Sometimes I will lay next to her and she will fall asleep much faster. I was very willing to just lay next to her and fall asleep. These nights when I lay next to her are very special. If I am too preoccupied with things I need to get done I will want her to fall asleep quickly. But many times this is a chance for her to talk to me openly. She, of course, is stalling going to sleep.

I was drifting off to sleep when she asked me, “Mom, how long will you be with me?” I was caught off guard and half asleep. I answered, “what do you mean?” She says, “How long will you be my mom?” I answered quickly without much thought, “I don’t know.” My sleepy thought processes are thinking of this earth life. None of us know when our time here is done.

As a side note, unfortunately, there are mothers who don’t get as much time with their kids before they are called back to their Maker. Lately, I have heard way too many stories of mothers with young children dying of all sorts of cancer. These are women who are my age. This has me thanking my Heavenly Father for each day I have with my children. Each day is a gift, whether I acknowledge it or not. I don’t know about every woman/mom, but for me, I would like to live to see my children get married and have grandchildren.

Back to the story, my little girl gave me a tight squeeze around my neck and said, “I want to be with you forever!”

I love you,” I said and she repeated in her sweet little voice, as she always does when I tell her this, “I love you too.” But then she added something new, “so does brother and sister.” This caught me by surprise. I realized she said this because she has heard me tell her older brother and sister I wish they would tell me they love me after I tell them I love them (They don’t usually). “Why do you think they don’t tell me anymore,” I ask her. “I think it’s just because they are bigger,” her tiny voice answers. “Promise me you will tell me you love me when you are bigger, ” I humbly ask. She says, “I will mommy.”

Dreaming of Vampires

Another funny thing my youngest told me this week. She has nightmares quite a bit. :( Unfortunately this has been going on for about 2 years or longer. Almost every other night she ends up in our bed because she is scared from a dream. Every once in a while we will ask her what she is dreaming of. Her most common replies are bugs & monsters. There is a new subject of her dreams…yes, you guessed it vampires! I asked her the other day what she was dreaming about and she said vampires. I said, “I wonder why you are dreaming of them?” A exclaims, “because Mom, I hear you talk about those books to Sissy!”

They tell it like it is, don’t they!

Since I am on the subject of vampires…

I set my DVR to record Ellen today. Stephenie Meyer was to appear on the show. I sat down to watch it tonight and was disappointed. Ellen only asked Stephenie about 3 or 4 questions and that was it! It was maybe only about 3 minutes long! Oh well, I am excited about her exposure. I am surprised when I wear my Twilight T-shirt and someone asks me what Twilight is. I just naturally think that everyone knows what Twilight is now. I am happy to share my enthusiasm with them. One lady told me I was a good sales person! I don’t have to be a good salesperson to share something I love with someone. Although, I know it is indeed easier to sell something I love.

Thank you, hubby!

I just want to take a quick minute to recognize my hubby. Today I went to visit the big “city.” I dropped the kids off at school and set out on the highway for my two hour drive. I went there to do some last minute shopping before the reunion & to visit my favorite hairstylist. If you live in a small town, you understand the necessity of driving two hours to do this. Anyway, my husband, on his half day off of work, picked up the kids from school, took our youngest to her dance class, and our oldest to church for her Young Women meeting. On top of this, he took them out to dinner. I talked to him on the phone a few times throughout the day and found out he was not having a good day. Let’s just say that it is days like these, when I am not around, that he must appreciate me more.

I am very grateful for his act of service for me. It was nice to have a day off from mundane chores and “Mom, can you do this?…Mom, he hit me!…Mom, can you sign this?…Mom, where is my _______?!”

I know after 13 years of being a mother, that I am a much better one after having a little time away. Obviously, my husband has noticed this too or he wouldn’t be so willing to help out.

Honey, if you are reading this…THANK YOU SO MUCH! You’re simply the best!

Besides, he doesn’t realize this, but every time he does this…it is a date with dad for my kids. This is quality time my kids will remember for years to come.

Cheers,
Shan

Wow…surprised!

I was surprised to find out how many visitors I had here on my blog yesterday. Either one of two things happened:

  1. You thought, “That slide show was cool!”
  2. You thought, “Go see this hilarious girl’s slide show on her blog.”

Yeah, yeah…go ahead and make fun of my 80′s hair, make up and clothing!

For whatever reason you visited…welcome.

Shan

P.S.: In celebration of my 20 year High School Reunion this weekend, I will be posting a new Playlist with some of my favorite 80′s music. Can you guess what I will be playing? Or do you have any requests?
