Running Music for 40 Somethings

Training for a half marathon gives you time to think, ponder and reflect.

Last Saturday I ran 10 miles in preparation for my half marathon I’m running this Saturday.

Running for 2 hours requires your ipod/mp3 player to be full of good high energy music to keep you motivated!

I decided to share the tunes that keep me running in hopes to help others stay motivated. ;)

  1. Your tip at the end is so true!! And it’s funny, when I hear one of my running “tracks” when I’m not running, say on the radio, I start to feel like I need to go for a run! It can be motivating (or it can make you feel guilty).

First off, I am on my iPhone waiting for my van to be serviced. Enjoying the mobile version! I couldn’t agree more about running with music. You have eclectic taste that provides lots of variety I bet. We have a few overlaps :) Will you race with or without your music?

    • Shan says:

Oh good, glad to hear the mobile version is working well. Hubby likes it too. “Loads faster than the original, ” he says. ;) I do have a very wide variety of tastes, but most of these songs have a steady beat to help keep me running. I laughed reading your last question because the answer is a LOUD resounding YES! When we are running together I will have it turned off or turned down low. The first half I ever ran…I ran with my best friend. We talked the whole way while my mp3 player stayed off and in my pocket. At mile 12 she told me to “go!” She didn’t intend on running the full half because of her having injuries. So I put on my headphones and powered up the music! I felt like I was running like the wind passing people on my last mile of the race. The music pushed me along and it felt great! Not sure I will feel the same way being 9 years older…we shall see. But since I haven’t had anyone to train/talk with this time, I’m thinking I will need my music on low. I hope I can talk without it being a burden while running.
